2024 Spring Tea Field Report & Sale

Greetings from sunny Yunnan.

 

We’ve been in China for just over 5 weeks now and the main part of the spring tea season is well and truly over now. 

 

The drier than usual conditions have once again resulted in lower than normal production volumes of tea across the board. This year’s early spring season came to a close sometime around the middle of the month just after Poshuijie (the water splashing festival). Recent bouts of heavy rain and lightning storms marked the beginning of the pre-summer, but we’re yet to see the true face of the rainy season. 

Like last year, many of this year’s teas have a unique quality and strained intensity to them — owing to the drier than usual conditions. Once again there’s a distilled sweetness and strength to the teas that have come from older trees with more established roots, or trees growing in proximity to rivers. We’ll be bringing back old reliables, new teas, new wares, more raws (of course) and hopefully a few surprises in the mix too — conditions allowing. While our hunt for more teas and wares is not quite over yet (is it ever?), we’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve been making with you all in the coming months. 

For now, we’re still here overseeing the pressing and wrapping of several productions* and preparing for phase 2 of the hunt.
